It's just such a gorgeous looking movie that it makes icon making so much easier! I could only do animated icons for a movie like this coz there are so many beautifully shot moments.

Grabbed #14, because it looks like lizzie is spinning continuously round and round and that's so addictive. LOL. Lovely job as always. You should think of doing a tutorial for these. A lot of people (me included) would love an easy guide to animation :)

I was worried the spinning might make people feel dizzy but I guess it must be slow enough to work!

I've never done a tutorial before and a lot of making these icons is just trying out lots of different stuff til something works (hence why there's usually more than one variation of each!) but I did post the following in response to someone else asking how to make animations:

The way I do it is using a program called Animation Shop along with Photoshop. Animation Shop uses video in the avi format.

First I capture the bit of animation I want from my DVD using 'DVD ripping' software that converts it into an avi format. You can use Windows Movie Maker to edit the clips down to the bit you want, but these will then be saved in the wmv format and will need to be converted into avi, there are plenty of free/trial wmv to avi converters available if you google for them.

Then I open the animation up in Animation shop, and all the frames that make up the animation are displayed in a long strip like a reel of film. You can crop all the frames in the animation at once to get the right size, and resize the animation so it can fit into 100x100. The hardest thing is getting it small enough to stay below the 40k size limit for LJ icons.

Then I make the base of the icon in photoshop and save that file as a jpeg. Then open the base up in animation shop. Then within animation shop duplicate the base so that within one long strip you have as many frames with the base in it as you do in the animation strip. Then if you select all of the frames in the animation strip and click on the first frame, while pressing ctrl, you can drag the whole animation strip onto the base strip. Then you save the whole thing as a gif file!

It's less complicated than it sounds once you get the hang of it. You can download free/trial versions of animation shop, dvd ripping software etc...

Hope that helps!

Thank you! that is the first time I've ever read anything about making animated icons (from a DVD file) that I've understood! I appreciate you writing all that out. I might just give it a go sometime :)

Bravo! :)

I agree with artic_fox about the spinning. I think the animation works best there (3, 13 & 14). Seamless!
